UPF
Ultraviolet Protection Factor, UPF, is the current standard for rating fabrics. The UPF rating is an indication of how much UV radiation is absorbed by the material. A rating of 50 will reduce the skin's exposure to UVA and UVB by 50 times.
SPF, Sun Protection Factor, is reserved for the labeling of sunscreens. This number gives you a sense of how long you can stay in the sun safely depending upon your skin type. A person who generally burns in 10 minutes can extend that time to 300 minutes when using an SPF 30 sunscreen. However, this assumption should be used with caution. The SPF rating only relates to UVB rays and does not include UVA.
